We're taking on walk for wishes!

This June we are taking on the walk for wishes kids challenge to raise money for Make-A-Wish UK!

Make-A-Wish UK grant life-changing wishes for thousands of critically ill children across the UK. Sadly, the number of wish enquiries from seriously ill children with less than a year to live is rising fast.

They need help to meet this urgent demand now - before it’s too late. For families with critically ill children, every day counts.

Your support has the power to make a wish come true for a critically ill child, allowing families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.

Mile 20

Saturday 20th Jun
We waited until late afternoon for todays stroll with the return of the warmer weather 🥴

We ventured back up to the local farm to say Hi to the horses and what a lovely view without the mist from day 3 😅
Along the way they stopped to watch some ants at work again, spotted by eagle eye Evs.

On our way back the boys stopped to see their Aunty & Uncle where they enjoyed a quick snack before their Granny & Taid passed by. So mile 20 ended with an inpromtu family gathering 🤣 much to the boys delight 👌

Mile 17, 18, &19

Saturday 20th Jun
Life has well and truly been lifing of late, something had to give and that was my daily updates 🤦‍♀️

Sorry about that! However I'm happy to report that we have still been keeping to the challange and thankfully Strava updates automatically so you can see that we have 👏 Thank you Strava 😅

We couldn't physically fit a walk in on Wednesday therefore we did 2 miles on the Thursday, we had a lovely loop around the Rhymney River, a little further down than previous and the boys were delighted to find another bridge 😅 However this one moved underfoot and therefore took some negotiating for Evan and Paddy 🤣  They also found lots of mudd, Eurion attempted to make a bridge over on section...check the photos to see how that went 🤣

Mile 19 we roped in Granny, we had a lovely stroll through the woods and a pit stop at Ystrad Park, where the boys delighted in exploring the new equipment 👌

Mile 16

Wednesday 17th Jun
I was unable to take pictures on the walk, we explored a section of the river lover down in Pengam.

But uploaded the aftermath of an exhausted Paddy 🤣

Mile 14 & 15

Sunday 14th Jun
We've walked 2 miles today to cover tomorrow.  There was plenty to explore whilst walking a around the Rhymney River from Gilfach to Bargoed.

First stop was to explore the Miners statues and a quick game of hide n seek amongst them.  Along the river there were a few bridges where they boys could play poohsticks 🥰

They then switched from competition mode to team work, carrying another branch for yet another "chuckle brother" moment.

And eagle eyed Evan spotted some more busy ants to watch.

That brings us to the half way point of the challenge 🙏🫶

Mile 13

Saturday 13th Jun
Well, today's walk was eventful 😅

The boys were excited to be back in their Tshirt, long may the sunshine last...although as you can see, they didn't stay on for the full walk. We were treated to some interesting dancing along the way 🕺

Eurion also considered alternative forms of gaining sponsorship, like scaling rear garden walls 🥴

(Jokes, we passed a relatives house 🤪)

Mile 12

Friday 12th Jun
It was a simple walk around the streets today, to be back ready for pizza and film night 🍿

Our vehicle loving lil man spotted a tractor at work in the distance, so that gave us a nice breather before they found a nice tyre track to play in 😅

Most importantly another mile ✅️

Mile 11

Friday 12th Jun
My photos haven't saved from today walk 😩 Which is a shame because we packed a lot in, including an excited Evan waving at the trains 🥰

We ventured along the cycle track in Hengoed today, walking across The viaduct much to the boys delight.

I did save a still of the boys exploring the mining carriages.

Mile 10

Wednesday 10th Jun
Today we walked just under 2.5miles as we walked to School.

Despite leaving in glorious sunshine we did get caught in a brief heavy downpour 🥴
Luckily Eurion had a secret snack pocket to keep spirits up 👏

Mile 9

Tuesday 9th Jun
Back to it today 💪 Delighted to go without our rain coats, even though we did get caught in a light but brief shower 🤣

Today we walked 1mile, despite the boys using a shortcut off the main path 🤣

We swapped puddles for mud patches 🥴 and apparently walked through a body scanner aka a K-barrier 🤣

No Wildlife visitors today, probably far too noisy along the wooden bridge, although we did watch someone fishing 👌

Mile 7 & 8

Sunday 7th Jun
We have walked 2 miles today to cover tomorrow, as Mondays are non stop for us.

We noticed a break in the weather so changed what we had planned for this afternoon, to head back up to Groesfan.

How are we on rain watch in June!

We took a different route this week, it took us passed the Darren Colliery Memorial from 1909. The boys like to look for the name of our ancestor.  Greatful that my boys won't be heading down the Pitt but proud to remind them of their mining heritage.

They've started to notice the ponds we pass and spend a few minuets by each, we even caught sight of a Heron today. Adding to our list of wildlife company. Along with a balck cat, we were also visited twice by a Robin 🥰

So that completes our first week of the challenge! Extremely greatful for the sponsorship we've received.
Thank you! ♡

Mile 6

Sunday 7th Jun
Although you can see Eurion dressed for a full hike, we did keep it to a mile today 🤣

I cannot believe we're on day 6 and still playing in puddles, we thought it was June!
Never the less it adds to the fun, some local cats came out to say hello.

Mile 5

Sunday 7th Jun
We kept it simple this evening, Friday night's are beloved Pizza and Film night so it was a simple mile around our street 🍕.

Mile 4

Thursday 4th Jun
Today we quite literally got our steps in with a decent flight of steps 👌

Still with our waterproofs we headed a different direction up the river today. Over a stone bridge and under the bypass bridge.

The boys got some extra steps in jumping in that massive puddle 🤦‍♀️🤣

We stopped to watch some very busy ants at work across the path and for our visitor today 🥁 we saw a rat the size of a cat 🤣

The boys channelled they're inner "chuckle brothers" carrying that log a fair way 👌

Happy to see we're currently ahead of target by 1 mile.

4days down, 26  to go 🤪

Mile 3

Wednesday 3rd Jun
We ventured out before brekkie this morning as there was a break in the rain 👌

We headed up to a local farm to say bore da to the horses, we also saw a hare running through the field 🥰

Beautiful views when the mist lifted 🥰

Mile 2

Tuesday 2nd Jun
Mile 2 took us under an echoing bridge that the boys had fun with 🤣

We walked along a section of the river  where Eurion gave us a quick lesson about water levels 🤣  before proceeding to get stung by some nettles 🤦‍♀️

We were also briefly joined by a squirrel but he didn't have his wallet, so off he went 🤣

We only caught a light shower and are excited to see what tomorrow brings.

Thank you for all our sponsorship so far!

Mile 1

Sunday 31st May
We started our challange today, a day early. Mondays bring with them 3 after school clubs in 3 different villages and exceeds bedtime - I know our limits 😅

We enjoyed a stroll - I strolled the boys mostly ran 🤣 through a section of the cycle path through Groesfan this morning. All three managed to fall along the way but a few minor grazes didn't deter them, we managed just over a mile finished just before the rain 👌

Thank you
