We're fundraising for...
Make-A-Wish® UK grant life-changing wishes for thousands of critically ill children across the UK. Sadly, the number of wish enquiries from seriously ill children with less than a year to live is rising fast. They need help to meet this urgent demand now - before it’s too late. For families with critically ill children, every day counts. Your support has the power to make a wish come true for a critically ill child, allowing families to create lasting memories that they will treasure forever – no matter what the future holds.
Meet your unlikely athletic heroes for the Great North Run: The GNR Chafers!
On September 13th, this group of six is taking on the iconic 13.1-mile course from Newcastle to South Shields. They are a team defined not by speed or endurance, but by a spectacular mix of abilities and questionable decision-making.
Their lineup includes a wide range of running experience:
The Enthusiast: They own compression socks and actually know what a "tempo run" is. They’ll be the one gritting their teeth and trying to set a PB (Personal Best... or maybe just a Personal Brave effort).
The Costume Runner: More concerned with their outfit than their time. Look out for a slightly aerodynamic superhero or perhaps a very sweaty animal costume.
The "Expert" Coach: Full of advice like "don't forget to hydrate" and "just keep moving," despite having trained almost exclusively on a diet of biscuits.
The Social Jogger: Planning to take selfies at every mile marker and might get distracted chatting with spectators.
The Novice (Our Secret Weapon): This runner’s previous peak performance was a 10k that included several "strategic walking breaks" (also known as prolonged rests). For them, South Shields might as well be on Mars, but they are determined to get there.
Will they break records? Highly unlikely. Will they finish? We certainly hope so. Will there be dynamic stretching that looks more like a modern dance routine? Almost definitely.
They are putting their bodies (and dignity) on the line to raise money for a fantastic cause. Please support their chaotic journey! Every donation helps them get one step closer to the finish line, or at least to the nearest pub afterwards.
